In the fall of 2011 there will be a “concorso”, a selection of candidates to be appointed as university professors in the public university. The italian departement of education had set the rules on how to take part in the selection: the application and the documentation were to be submitted by email as .pdf files.
No way. The email can be used only to apply, but not to attach documentation and publications. The “Consiglio di Stato” has ruled that sending the files can become “too expensive” and the “preparation and reading of the .pdf could take too much time.
The estimate cost of the copies and physical mailing of all the papers involved is in the region of 8M euro (12M $), the cost of one year for 15o professors.
